Self-build - by choice |
We can’t really remember what prompted us to even consider building our own home. It was probably a spur of the moment idea that just gathered momentum all on its own and now there’s no looking back.
The life of the Lodge began in May 2003. Little did we realise when we stood on the bridge and looked over a dilapidated old bungalow that 10 months later we would be demolishing it and building our dream home!!!
In these pages we will document the trials and tribulations, the highs and the lows and, just to keep your attention and interest, we have included a “Praise or Shame” section where we will name both the good guys and the bad ones.

Suncot - a brief history
The original part of the building was built in the late 1700’s and probably formed part of Colliers School which was supported by St. Mary’s Church. It consisted of just two tiny rooms and luckily for us it was not “listed”.
In the early 1900’s a pitched roof extension was added and the building was then used as a Tea Room and garden.
The sixties saw the ugly flat roof extension added and Suncot reverted to being a dwelling.
